charming & down‑to‑earth

Gabriel Pons beams when he speaks of his twin daughters. They are now two years old and command all of his attention. Gabriel lives in Mahon on the island of Menorca with his small family. He and his wife Marina have been married for six years. “Having a family with Marina is the most important thing that has happened to me in my life”.
Gabriel lost his left leg in a motorcycle accident at the age of 14. “On that day I wanted to go to a club with my friend for the first time. But we didn’t make it that evening”. A drunken tourist rammed into the motorcycle. Gabriel, who was sitting in the back, was tossed from his seat. “My first trip to a club was delayed”, he says today, laughing. His mother encouraged him not to give up his dreams and future plans.
Prior to his accident, Gabriel was very active in sports. When he had enough strength to ride a bicycle again after his first fitting, he felt like the king of the world. Later he went water-skiing, surfing, rode horses and trained in a fitness studio. “Being able to do these things again gave me back the feeling of freedom”.
Motorcycles are Gabriel’s greatest passion. Saving up for a Quad took years. Once he had it, he was able to take trips with friends in his free time and participate in competitions.
Gabriel works as an excavator operator. At work today you see many more people with handicaps who are in the prime of their life and can handle whatever comes their way.
