Ottobock UK’s Technical Services Manager supports athletes from around the world at Invictus Games
Russell Pizzey, Technical Services Manager at Ottobock UK has joined the team of prosthetic and orthotic experts providing essential maintenance and repairs to equipment used by athletes at the Invictus Games 2017.
Russell joins the technical services team in Toronto, where the third Invictus Games is being hosted, to share his expertise and help to ensure that the prosthetic and orthotic devices used by the athletes are at peak function. Like the pit lane in motor-racing, Ottobock’s technical service provides seamless equipment repairs, wasting no time in returning athletes to the action.
This year’s event welcomes more than 550 competitors from 17 nations competing in a dozen adaptive sports. Established by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games are the only international adaptive sporting event for injured active duty and veteran service members. These Games use the power of sports to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding of and respect for those who serve their country, and their loved ones.
Russell has provided technical service at every Invictus Games, having been a part of the Technical Service team in London 2014 and Orlando 2016. He has also worked at two Paralympic Games, in London 2012 and Rio 2016. Russell has worked in the prosthetics industry for over 30 years, beginning his career as an apprentice in 1979. With over 22 years’ experience with Ottobock, Russell is now Technical Services Manager with a variety of responsibilities including ensuring that Ottobock customers are provided with the best technical information possible.
Some of the competitors at the Games will be users of the most advanced prosthetic technology available in the world, including Ottobock’s Genium X3, the world’s most technologically advanced microprocessor prosthetic leg. Offering above-knee amputees the most natural movement possible, the Genium X3 is fully waterproof and offers new activities never before possible.
