Ottobock UK have a team of field based staff who are dedicated to managing the Ottobock product training needs of our UK customers. Known as ‘Academy Clinicians,’ these highly skilled individuals are experts within the prosthetics and orthotics industry. Rigorous training of our staff and on our own products ensures our customers receive the very best, most advanced training on what can be very complex products.
What does the training include?
The academy team offer training on our entire product portfolio, this includes prosthetics and orthotics for both the upper limb and lower limb. Our academy clinicians can explain the technical features of each product, as well as detail the specialist materials used in the production of each device.
In addition to this, we also provide training on clinical assessment techniques when measuring the progress of patients using our products. Our academy team training is not just restricted to prosthetists and orthotists; in fact, it is extended out to the full multi-disciplinary team, including consultants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and also to technicians involved in the manufacture and repair of prostheses/orthosis.
Our academy team are dedicated to training others on the Ottobock product line, but also provide further support to clinicians on a reactive basis. Mentoring clinicians until they are comfortable to fit our products independently is a large part of the support we routinely offer our customers.
Where can I get the training?
Training can be provided on a one to one basis at the clinicians’ hospital in conjunction with their patient, or alternatively, we also run regular regional group seminars where clinicians can attend a whole range of training courses to advance their knowledge and develop their skillset. Ottobock recognise that clinical time with patients is valuable, and in response to this, we offer a number of online training courses in an E-Learning format. This allows clinicians the freedom and flexibility to train in their own time and space.
Meet our team of Academy Clinicians
I have been with Ottobock for two years and as a member of the Academy I support and train clinicians around the country in fitting Ottobock prostheses and componentry. I graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2009 with a BSc. Hons. degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
I graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BSc (hons) Prosthetics and Orthotics in 2014. Before starting with Otto Bock I worked for Blatchford for just over 5 years. I started off as a graduate Orthotist in Sheffield before moving to Cumbria to cover their community clinics in the Lake District.
I have been working as part of the Orthotics Academy for two years in April. My role includes Product support, education and training. Supporting both NHS and Private clinical providers. A large focus of my role in 2019 was certification and support of Ottobock’s FES systems, the L100 and L300GO.
I graduated from the University of Salford in 2002 and have since worked in the industry as a prosthetist. My career started at the North Midlands Limb Fitting Centre in Stoke, where I worked for almost five years, and gained a broad range of experience in lower-limb prosthetics.
